II Peter 3:18

As we look to the New Year, the church session has prayerfully considered and acted upon a theme for the year that will crown all that we are about and all that we will do. It is taken from II Peter 3:18, which reads...

“But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.”

In short, that is exactly what we are hoping to do throughout 2009. We want every ministry, Bible study, Sunday school class, mission project, outreach, to lead us along a path where we will grow in God’s grace and the knowledge of Jesus Christ.

As the Nominating Committee begins its work on nominating five members to serve as elders on the Class of 2012, we need your help.

We would love to hear from the congregation as to who you think would be a good candidate to serve on the WPC Session. Please take a moment to prayerfully consider this and if there are names that you would like to suggest.

There are three methods to submit elder candidate names:

A. Please fill-in five names and the reasons you feel the person named should be an elder in the BOX provided below.

B. Please email those to the church office at nhatfield@wpcgwd.org.

C. Please fill-out a nominating slip and place it in an offering plate Sunday mornings.

Your donation gives 3 people a fighting chance at life. In about 45 minutes of your time, you can give a lifetime. They may not remember your name but they will always remember your gift. You cannot acquire HIV or AIDS by giving blood. Please consider giving blood as this is the greatest gift you can give...saving someone’s life. Please donate blood at our Family Night Supper on August 19.

CHRISTIAN LIFE CONFERENCE…………A HIGHLIGHT FOR YOUR SUMMER

Where can you spend the 4^th of July like never before???? Where can you see parades, fireworks, & small town Americana in the mountains, experience a relaxing getaway with your family and lots of Christian friends from around the country, and yet, best of all, meet with your Savior, Jesus Christ? Where else but Montreat, NC, for this year’s Christian Life Conference, July 4-7! If you have never been, make this year your time to go. There is wonderful music and worship, great speakers on the topic of “The Father’s Love”, sweet times of fellowship, and excellent teaching & workshops on such topics as: Prayer, Parenting, Friendship, the Uniqueness of Jesus, the Bible Speaks for Itself, Leadership, the Heart of Money, etc. The conference is like three conferences in one, as there is a wonderful children’s program and lots going on for the youth at the same time as the teaching and worship for the adults.

To make it more possible for you to go, WPC is offering special scholarships of $50/person for anyone (man, woman, or child) going for the first time. Get more information at the church office. Invite a friend, tell someone else about the conference. Let this be your time to be renewed and refreshed in your relationship with our living Lord Jesus Christ.

PARENT NIGHT OUT

Friday - July 10 — 6:30 - 9:30 p.m.

Parents may drop off their children for a fun night of fellowship, Bible study, recreation, dinner, ice cream sundaes, games and a movie. Cost is $3.00 per child. Parent should RSVP to church office by Wednesday, July 8. Bring a friend!

Beat the summer heat with ice cream and Inspirational time Sunday, July 12 at 7:00 p.m. Worship & special speaker Rev. Dr. Bob Todd (of Abbeville Presbyterian & HospiceCare of the Piedmont) will be followed by homemade ice cream. Children’s program also happening. For those of you who have a favorite homemade ice cream recipe and care to compete in a good humored ice cream contest, talk to Chris Schwartz or David Grant.
