EVANGELISM NEWS AND UPDATES:

The Evangelism Committee met on January 10, 2012 to discuss plans for the new year.  Westminster is a healthy church and the new service continues to be a success.  Five new families joined the church in the past month. Four of the five attend the contemporary service.  There is a need to advertise/market all of what we are doing at Westminster.  We are looking into ways we can market ourselves to Greenwood.

There are plans for an evangelism study sometime later in 2012.  Starting Ash Wednesday, six weeks of Vespers services will take place on Wednesday nights.  Six different members of the congregation who are preachers will lead one of the services.

The McCormick Prison Christmas Dinner was yet again a success.  Westminster provided the chicken which was purchased at a low cost from Lander University.  Many volunteers participated and there was plenty of food to go around.  The prison chaplain sent a letter out that included the four scheduled services for 2012.  Van Taylor can be contacted for more details.

The Good News Club continues to grow and now has 35 children participating.  Sixteen members of our congregation have made the commitment to take part in 2012.  George Park has done a great job leading this ministry.

The Christmas Child Shoe Box ministry collected approximately 125 boxes just from Westminster per Connie Dailey.  We will have updates later in the year on ministries such as Live After Five, Communiversity, and Card-Craft.

The Lord has blessed us and it is good we are able to give back to the community and spread his word.

HODGES GOOD NEWS CLUB

The Good News Club (at Hodges Elementary School), sponsored by WPC, has done well in its first season.

The Bible Lessons followed the format below at each club meeting:

Prayer
Praise
Singing
Clapping
Shouting the word of God
Cheering
Games
Snacks
Fun
Bible memory verses
Hugs
Counseling
Second helpings
A whole lot of Christian love

Our 15 volunteers were richly rewarded in loving and being loved, and in seeing our God have His Way in our lives and in the lives of these children.

The Club began with 9 students signed up. Enrollment increased with each week; to 13, then 15, then 18 and finally 20 by the end of the season, reaching about 10% of the school’s student body. We felt blessed and elated.

Further growth is expected when school clubs start again in September. More volunteers are needed. The training session for volunteers will take place Aug. 27 at St. Mark's Riverstreet Center. Interested Christians may call George Park at 223-0114 (home) or 227-5117 (office).

… but Jesus said, “Let the children come unto to me, and do not hinder them; for to such belongs the kingdom of Heaven.”  - Matthew 19:14
